Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist?
No referral is required. You can book an appointment directly with us.
Does Medicare cover podiatry?
Not generally. For chronic conditions, ask your G.P. if you fit into the Government's advanced primary care plan for chronic conditions, this allows limited Medicare cover.
How long does a pair of orthotics last?
We make our own orthotics and they generally should be replaced every 5 years. If you are having regular check-ups they can last a lot longer as adjustments are made as required. If the orthotic shell still looks intact sometimes it is just the cover that needs replacing.
How long does it take to get used to wearing orthotics?
You will then need about a month to get used of wearing your orthotics and any adjustments will be made during the check-up visit.
What are the trading hours?
Moorebank: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10:30am - 7pm. Sutherland: every second Tuesday (By Appointment Only) 10:30am - 7pm. Campbelltown: Tuesday, Thursday 10:30am - 7pm
What is the difference between custom and pre-moulded orthotics?
Why are chemist orthotics so much cheaper? They are mass produced and pre-moulded so don't fit the individual foot. At Sports Focus Podiatry we undertake a detailed biomechanical examination and custom make all our own orthotics to the individual patient. Although the outlay of around $450 may seem like a lot, a good pair of orthotics can last 5 years or more whilst pre-moulded orthotics will lose their shape very quickly.
What should I bring to the appointment?
For the first appointment any relevant X-ray, CT or MRI results if you have them. A pair of well worn shoes so we can look at the wear patterns.
Who sees a podiatrist?
Anybody with foot concerns ranging from the elderly to children to athletes who want to improve their performance.
Will my Health Fund cover the cost?
Most of the top level health funds cover consultations and orthotics. Rebates will vary so it is best to check directly with your health fund.
